Pregnant and on Medicaid?

Before you make changes to your health insurance coverage, we want you to know how HIPP can help you and your family keep your health insurance, at no cost to you.

What is HIPP?

HIPP is a program that reimburses patients for their health insurance premiums and covers out-of-pocket medical expenses for Medicaid recipients.  HIPP may even pay for your entire family to have health insurance.

If I have Medicaid, can I have other health insurance?

Many expectant mothers believe they cannot be enrolled in other health insurance while receiving Medicaid benefits.  This is simply not true.

If I already have Medicaid, why should I keep my other health insurance?

If you have both Medicaid and other health insurance coverage, you may get:

  • Health coverage for your entire family under the same policy
  • Increased access to primary care doctors, specialty care doctors, and hospitals
  • Additional healthcare services that Medicaid may not cover

How do I know if I qualify for HIPP?

Families should apply to HIPP if at least one family member:

  • Receives Medicaid benefits; and
  • Has access to health insurance through a job or COBRA
